Dewlaw Course.

Our newest edition in the development of Matfen Hall is already getting excellent reviews from members and guests. Dewlaw has been designed to blend in with the other courses as well as having its own unique features. This nine has everything you could wish for, natural water hazards, beautiful woodland and a lovely rolling landscape with fantastic views of the Northumberland countryside.

The toughest hole is the long par 4 7th. A very well bunkered fairway makes for a straight drive, then a long iron or fairway wood will be needed for a second shot over water to an undulating well guarded green. Following on is the gorgeous par 3 8th hole. This hole has its very own environment, surrounded by trees and hitting over the rushes reaching out from the lake, its certainly a hole to remember on a nine you wont forget.

  • 1st - A draw is the perfect shot off the tee. Clever play is to the front, fat part of the green as there is a bunker encircling the back half of the green.
  • 2nd - Straightforward tee shot. The 2nd shot tends to play longer than it's yardage as it it very much uphill, take one club more.
  • 3rd - Aim to be just short of the right hand bunker off the tee to give you the best angle into a very small green, so make sure you have accurate yardage, don't go big!!
  • 4th -Straightforward shot, just beware of the cross wind as your ball rises above and out of the trees, you can't feel it standing on the tee.
  • 5th - The drive should finish just left of the right hand tee. Sensible play is to then lay up short off the cross bunkers. Be sure to check flag position for your 3rd shot, it is a very long green, it could be 3 clubs difference from front to back.
  • 6th - Good solid tee shot required to get over the hill, beware of the front, right bunker with your approach shot as the ground gathers the ball towards it.
  • 7th - Aim at the middle of the left hand bunkers off the tee, a good strike may give you a chance of reaching in two, water front and surrounding the right hand side of the green, a lay up may be the best option.
  • 8th - Beautiful but straightforward par 3. Just be careful not to stray right, as this is a lost ball area.
  • 9th - Very accurate tee shot required with the river Pont on the e left and the lake on the right. The dog leg may be taken off the tee but make sure you have the carry.
