Standing Stone Course The most challenging nine holes, not only is it the longest but you cross the natural beauty of the river Pont on no less than five occasions. As you play round the boundary of the course, trouble lurks for a faded shot on most holes. Standing Stone has arguably the two toughest holes on the complex.
The very impressive looking 14th hole, a 442 yard par 4 playing over water twice to a beautiful green site that has a unique sense of calm and privacy which can be felt throughout the golf course. The 17th hole is a brilliantly designed par 3, fraught with trouble but at the same time very relaxing with the water and mature trees shadowing the green.
- 1st - Shortest hole on the course but the Rive Pont awaits if you pull it. A very tricky sloping green.
- 2nd - Straight tee shot is a must to give a simple second shot to the green. Watch out for that hidden 'ha ha' wall just short.
- 3rd - Another tough Par 4. Don't be tempted to cut the corner with your tee shot. If you do make it over the trees, bunker await. With a very narrow green front to back, shot selection is vital.
- 4th - Birdie opportunity Par 5. Don't forget the 'ha ha' wall with your second shot.
- 5th - Toughest hole on the course where anything right is lost. Don't be greedy, lay up short of the stream. A bogey is not a disaster.
- 6th - A strong Par 4. Straight tee shot required to keep out of the fairway bunkers, which give you a little chance of going for the green. Watch out for the River Pont just short.
- 7th - Play right of the trees with your drive and lay up short of the cross bunkers with your second leaving yourself a lofted approach to the narrow sloping green. A good birdie chance played sensibly.
- 8th - Matfen's signature hole. A daunting Par 3, where the tee shot must be aimed to the right half of the tricky, sloping green. Anything left will meet a watery grave.
- 9th - A new back tee as given the otherwise fairly gentle hole some teeth.
